Consistent Wine Storage Conditions

TEMPERATURE

Our Climate Controlled Cellar has a refrigeration system installed to keep the temperature at around 14.5 Degrees Celsius (+/- 1 Degree). We regularly monitor the temperature to allow us to respond in the event of any major fluctuations. Fortunately, our Wine Cellar has been built in a room with concrete walls, Floor and Ceiling, almost making it like a bunker providing excellent insulation.

HUMIDITY

Humidity is extremely important for the long-term storage of wine. At Hills Self Storage we maintain humidity levels between 50-80%. This keeps the corks moist and therefore preserving the quality attributes of your wine. 

OZONE INJECTION

We go the extra mile when it comes to providing the best possible conditions for the storage of your wine. Our Ozone Injection system is installed to prevent mould build up and keeps the atmosphere clean and free of bacteria. 

VENTILATION

All wine lockers in our Wine Cellar have ventilation slots cut into the doors which allow for better airflow and temperature consistency throughout your wine collection. 

LIGHT

Our Wine Cellar is constantly in complete darkness until it is lit up with sensor lighting for short periods when customers are on site. Too much light can be detrimental to the quality of your wine over the long term. In addition, all our lockers are also completely concealed from light by a full size lockable wooden door.  

MOVEMENT

Being a purpose built wine cellar we have no vibrations running through our wine lockers that a wine fridge would. Vibration can be detrimental to the development of your wine. In addition, only you have access to your wine and only you move your wine. Unlike Managed Wine Storage this gives you complete control.
